Kim & Lucas
Love in Full Bloom Among the Rhododendrons
I was delighted to be the Portland engagement photographer that Kim & Lucas choose for their spring engagement photography session at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.
Everyone right now is dealing with the effects of COVID-19, and none more so then essential workers. I knew many of my couples are included in that work force so I reached out and asked if some of them would be willing to share their experience.
Kim answered the call! Said she would be happy to share her experience as both herself and her, now Husband, Lucas work for UPS. Though surprisingly that's not how they met, as many of my couples today do, they met online.
Kim said that things at work have been stressful, she constantly feels like she is on a hamster wheel. When I asked what other people could do to support essential workers Kim just expressed a want for us all to just be nice to each other. Because you never know who is an essential worker and who isn't. I think she is right, in this difficult time a little kindness can go along way.
I asked Kim to share in her own words about how coronavirus has changed daily life, at work, and at home with family, this is what she had to say:
"We have people close to us who have tested positive and also have family members who are at higher risk/immune compromised. With having jobs which require us to still work, we are mindful of the possibility of being carriers and have to stay away from the people we love; I haven’t given my parents a hug in months and that just sucks. I would also add that it has been non-stop with Christmas time volume levels since October 2019 and we are still fighting to make sure that all of your orders are delivered on time. I appreciate everyone in the team for not giving up even though I know everyone is exhausted. Lucas and I are both proud to be a UPSer.
My UPS facility has started a food pantry to help part-time employees in need. I have helped get the word out to other employees so we can help support each other. We have built up a decent pantry so no employee goes hungry or has to worry about feeding their family. Lucas’s facility really stepped up the initial sourcing of supplies for the whole division. We are able to buy hand sanitizer from Rose City Distillery and that is all thanks to his team. UPS in Portland has also partnered with Blanchet House and other community organizations to provide fresh meals to people staying at temporary shelters in the Portland area."
While most of Kim & Lucas's time are still consumed by work and school, they have been finding some time to work on projects around the house. And every Saturday they have Google Hangout “Happy Hour” with friends!
Kim and Lucas choose the internationally-recognized Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden as the location for their engagement photography session. May was the perfect time to visit as the azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom, and the garden is spectacular. Besides the flowers the garden is a great spot for some bird watching.
Reviews are always so greatly appreciated. When I saw an email pop up from Wedding Wire that Kim and Lucas had left a review I was anxious to read, this is what they said:
"The photos for the engagement session are amazing! Cambrae was fun to work with, incredibly helpful in making our poses look natural, and an all around good sport. She let us direct the outcome of the session but also gave us tips and made suggestions to make it perfect. I had a vision for the photos but wasn't sure how to make it a reality or vocalize those ideas. Cambrae must have picked up on that because the photos look exactly how I wanted them to.
We appreciate the fact that she has gone out of her way to be a source of support through (arguably) a stressful time in this couple's life. She's been flexible, a shoulder to cry on, and a sounding board for ideas with great suggestions and a wealth of wedding planning knowledge. Cambrae has exceeded all of our expectations! Thank you!!!"
Needless to say, I was extremely touched.
